Pub Day: Finding Independence in America

My fourth book, Finding Independence in America: An International Student’s Journey from Malaysia to Medical School, is published on October 8. It is a sequel to The Girl Who Taught Herself to Fly, which is about the first 19 years of my life in Malaysia and how Wellesley College awarded me a scholarship to continue my education. Finding Independence in America picks up the story when I arrived in America and traces my meandering journey to become a doctor.
On the way, I grappled with assimilation into different customs and cultures and faced racism and sexism. With the help of many, I found ways to fund my medical education. Using my medical knowledge and skills, I waded into humanitarian medical volunteering worldwide as my way of paying it forward for what I received from Wellesley, Harvard, and Chicago Medical School and society. Non-ministrari non-ministare.
Fortuitously, all four of my books came out in October, celebrating their birth with the fall symphony of riotous and incomparable colors.
I hope you will celebrate with me, tell your friends and family, read it, and leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads.
If you are near Belmont, Massachusetts, come to a book talk at the Belmont Public Library on November 9, from 6-7 p.m. There will be a book sale and signing. Hope to see you there.
